Bio

Dan Moffett earned his B.S. (’97) and Masters Degree (’04) in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While studying music at U of I Dan was an active performer, serving as a member of the university’s top wind symphony, as well as performing in jazz bands, pep bands, small chamber ensembles, experimental music ensembles, rock bands, and the Marching Illini.

Since graduation, Dan has maintained a busy teaching schedule. For the past decade Dan has served as professor of saxophone at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. Dan has also been a public school band director in Illinois since 1997 and is currently director of bands at Komarek School District 94 in North Riverside, IL. 

In addition to teaching, Dan has an extensive performance background in jazz, classical, and popular music. He has performed with such notable groups as The Buckinghams, The Rascals, The Box Tops, Jay and the Americans, Martha and the Vandellas, Gino Vannelli, Bobby Rydell, Lou Christie, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Dennis Tufano, CTA with Danny Seraphine and Bill Champlin, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest, and the Wheaton Municipal Band to name a few. Dan was featured on the recent solo release by Buckingham's frontman and founder Carl Giammarese titled "Let The Music Play", and his saxophone work garnered critical acclaim from both local and national media outlets.

For the past three decades Dan has been a founding member of the Eight Ball Saxophone Quartet, a small chamber group founded in Champaign, IL. Eight Ball specializes in music from all genres, including classical literature as well as jazz standards and popular music. In addition to Eight Ball, Dan is an in-demand freelancer in and around Chicago and can often be seen performing with various rock/pop groups, jazz ensembles, and wedding bands in the area.

Dan resides in Westmont, IL with his wife Karen and their three children. He is currently sponsored by the Conn-Selmer Corporation as an Artist-Endorser for Selmer saxophones. Dan’s teachings focus on fundamentals, tone, expression, and on developing proficient technique thru the study of classical and jazz literature.
